There is only one route to ride completely around Lake Tahoe. If you start on the Nevada side of the lake, that would be US 50 to Hwy 89 to Hwy 28, back to US 50.
There are several other excellent summer rides in the Sierras near Tahoe, including tours of some of the old mining camps and a few ghost towns in the area. Both California and Nevada publish tourist maps of the area which should give you some good ideas for a motorcycle day trip, or a weekend tour of the area. You can pick up maps and brochures of some of the more popular tourist attractions at almost any local hotel or casino. |

It's not all that long of a ride, zig-zagging up the side roads is pretty cool.
A few nice vistas along the way ,Reno is not too far, but if you really want to see the lake ,take a boat tour. |

Some people have tried this, but I don't recommend it. It has something to do with crossing state lines and time zones and elevations or something. The last people who tried wound up on The Twilight Zone, and Rod Stieger was making some wierd moves on them.
Take my advice: don't do it. |
