Cbr600RR, R6, GSX600R, ZZR600...etc
I mean, yeah they are kind of fast if you've never ridden a literbike (or bigger) but they are fairly suitable for beginners if they don't act completely stupid... Why does it seem everyone on this forum is afraid of them? Why do you usually direct noobs in another direction? click click: the forum as a whole.... I've been hanging out in this section for a while... Sorry: "super" sports was the correct term... point remains the same, they are mild sport bikes... mild compared to the literbikes, and meek compared to the hypers (eye abuser, zx-14, 'Bird, and K1200S) |

There is no perfect bike for everyone. If there were, this would be the only bike that would sell. Last time I looked, there was a large variety of bikes currently being sold. Bikes in all shapes and sizes.
People buy bikes that suit their needs. And speed doesn't always suit their needs. |

I consider a 600cc a starter bike. Not everyone on this forum is afraid of them. I personally would not own one since I do consider them starter bikes. I have a CBR1000 that I have turned into a track bike.

when you say "you usually direct noobs in another direction" exactly who are YOU talking to? That's being too general isn't it?

I don't know. I have read some articles where the writer refers to them as hypers. I don't agree with it. I've always reserved the 'hypers' for the big ninja, busa and XX type bikes.
Sure, they are fast, but depends on what you compare them to. They seem pretty timid to me until you get 'em really wound up tight. For the most part, they are fairly mild mannered and rider friendly. I suppose based on the way they look and the model numbers associated with them, that people are quick to stereo type them in to a certain group of bikes that doesn't suit beginners very well. If a person has at least taken a beginners MSF and has a decent amount of common sense, i really think they can get any bike they want. As long as it fits their taste and budget-go for it. It's the people like this that need a used 250 rebel to start on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQIpxtTUY00 |

I'm one of the main ones. If you've never touched a bike before I'd always advise and old crapper over a new ZX6 or GSX/R or R6. ZZR is not hyper sport. It has a higher windscreen, more upright riding position, and less performance than the ZX6R. It goes the same for a YZF6R and the R6. I'd say a newbie can ride a YZF6R and a ZZR if they are going to ride with the sense God gave them.
A Squid can kill himself on a 36cc scooter so the bike doesn't matter but it's always best to give the safest advice. Yes they are 600 but the design is of a race bike made street legal. Nobody is racing a ZZR or YZF. The GSX/R 600 in the dealership is not that far off from what the guys on the circuit are riding. I use the word super sport instead of hyper but it's all implied. Just something to differentiate the sport street bikes and sport race bikes. |

Hypersportbikes are the Hayabusa, ZX1400, etc. I don't know where you got the hypersports for the 600cc class. On my expereience people call them exactly whay you did...middleweights.
They are too fast! I dont need that! Im sticking to my Ninja 250R lol. I rode a 2006 CBR600RR and was like...wow this is retarted fast. I would like to ride an RC51 or TL1000R though... |

a 600 sports bike will get around a tight track just as fast if not faster than a 1000,
the newer 600's are stupid fast, and would kill my old gsxr1100 or zx7r, i think they are too much for the average newbie rider, sure some people can controll them selves, but most can't. edit: a 600 may be half a 1200 sportster in capicity, but its over twice the power and only 1/5 less torque than the sportster |

You trust beginners not to be stupid?
Don’t you remember what it was like to be 17? Go on a road with bends, try to keep up with a well-ridden 600 – a long, heavy Blackbird would get left behind. And that ability is why I wouldn't recommend anyone start with one, they are far beyond what a beginner can deal with. |

Because back when I was that age and that mentality I was lucky enough to only have a 650 Triumph Bonneville available. I got as stupid as the bike would allow. It was like 40hp. If I had an R6, I would have gotten at least 3 times as stupid with 3 times the horsepower.
I think young whippersnappers today are probably about the same as they were 30 years ago. If I had an r6 or a 600rr available I certainly wouldn't have listened to anyone, I would have road nicely for a while and then I would have took it out to see just what it could do. Better to do that after 30k or 40k miles, there is muscle memory involved when things happen quickly and you need to have your reactions pre programed. |

It appeals to the consumer, word game. I would consider them a mid sized bike nothing more nothing less. In the future a 1000cc will end up being mid sized. As far as a beginner bike is there such a thing? Stupid does not change inexperience does.

Because there are plenty of stupid new riders who kill themselves on 600cc bikes every year. 600cc is good for a beginner if they are on a cruiser, but not a sport bike. At some point or another, I've seen EVERY beginner (the ones I have ridden with) act stupid on a bike. And no, 600cc sport bikes aren't "kind of fast". They are incredibly fast. They are race bikes and should be treated as such. A corvette isn't as fast as an F1 racecar, but it is still plenty fast to get an idiot in trouble.
